BMW R 1300 GS Adventure Completes the Lineup
BMW has revealed the R 1300 GS Adventure, the long-travel, big-tank variant that touring-focused riders have anticipated since the standard R 1300 GS launched. The Adventure receives a 30-litre fuel tank (up from 19 litres), extends suspension travel by 20mm at both ends, and adds standard equipment including crash bars, hand guards, and auxiliary lighting preparation. Pricing starts at €23,990, with fully-optioned versions exceeding €30,000.
The 1300cc boxer twin carries over unchanged, producing 145 horsepower and 149Nm of torque. The engine's character—strong low-end pull with a willingness to rev that previous boxers lacked—suits the Adventure's touring focus perfectly. BMW claims 600+ kilometre range from the enlarged tank at moderate touring pace, addressing the primary criticism of the standard model's limited fuel capacity.
Electronic suspension is standard, using BMW's latest Dynamic ESA system that adjusts damping automatically based on road conditions. The semi-active setup now includes an "Enduro Pro" mode that allows more chassis movement for off-road riding—a feature some riders found lacking on the standard GS. Ground clearance increases to 245mm, and the bash plate extends rear protection compared to the base model.
Weight increases to 268kg ready to ride, a 19kg penalty over the standard GS that reflects the larger tank and additional equipment. This places the Adventure firmly in the heavyweight touring category rather than any pretense of lightweight agility. For riders planning long-distance expeditions with significant fuel range requirements, the trade-off is acceptable. For riders who valued the standard GS's relative nimbleness, the Adventure may disappoint.
